I had nothing planned for today so I basically did nothing. It was nice. For the rest of the week I have mystery shopping to do so I’ll be out and about and busy. I took today to just goof off.
As I was being a bum today I thought of a number of topics I wanted to blog about. Now, of course, I can remember none of them.
Today is hubby’s birthday. It’s also is golf/poker day. So we won’t be celebrating it until this weekend. Oh well. We did go out to Mexican food for lunch.
Oh yeah, I remember one thing. We went to this restaurant for lunch. It’s a small place with as many tables as possible crammed into the space. There are 2 people who work the floor. We got there at lunch time so it was pretty busy. As we walked in one waitress was wiping down a table and pointed us to it. We sat. We sat there for a couple of minutes and the waitress who pointed us there walked by a couple of times but never brought silverware or menus. After a couple of minutes hubby reached over and grabbed some menus off an empty table.
After we had been there almost 10 minutes the waitress who seated us brought us water and silverware. We told her we were ready to order and she said okay and walked away. Hmmm, interesting. I then saw her tell the other waitress something. Waitress #2 picked up her order pad and walked into the dining area. I thought we would get our order taken. Waitress #2 walked over to the corner table opposite us and asked them if they were ready to order. They said no and she walked back towards the kitchen. She never even glanced in our direction. Hmmm…. After a few more minutes she came out again and went to the same table to see if they were ready yet. What the hell is going on??
We had now been sitting there almost 15 minutes without anyone taking our order. It’s lunchtime. Most people are in a hurry and have limited time for lunch. Waitress #2 came out one more time and again completely avoided our section of the restaurant. That was it, we got up and left. Went next door to the Mexican place and had a great lunch.
What the hell has happened to customer service? The way I see it, there are 100 people doing the exact same thing you are. In order for you to stand out to me you better have good customer service. The building this restaurant is in had 3 restaurants. If I had walked 1/2 a block I would have run into 4 more. That’s 7 places to eat in spitting distance of each other. If you have poor customer service it’s ain’t hard to find another place to eat. There are even places that serve the exact same type of food.
It was one thing when there was only one restaurant in a neighborhood. Now you have to stand out from the crowd and the only way you can really do that is customer service. I will patronize a place that has superior customer service even if the food at another place is slightly better.
Okay, that’s it. My rant on customer service. Try it, it works.
