Working with high school kids you can not help but think about the future. They do all the time. This weekend, next month, when they can drive, when they graduate, it’s all future plans. One of the things that I think is a great asset to people of all ages is to see possibilities. Most of the kids I encounter see the possibilities. They would like to do this but they could also do this or that, the world is full of possibilities to them. When I see someone, especially a young person, who refuses to see the possibilities it makes me crazy. I’ve said for a million years, there is always a Plan B you just need to find it. There is never only one option, never!!! Yes, there may be only one option for the outcome you insist on having, but if you are flexible in your outcomes there are always options.
I know someone who is having some medical problems. Turns out their problems are way more serious then they thought, and this person is fairly young. Having become a huge fan of alternative medicine my suggestion is that they pursue that avenue first. They won’t hear of it. They insist on going to traditional doctors, surgeons, who only want to cut. Now I’m not saying that alternative medicine is going to cure their problems, I don’t think that will happen. But I think alternative medicine can have a number of benefits. It can strengthen the body so it’s better able to deal with whatever needs to be done. It can help in pain management and general overall wellness. It can help boost the bodies natural defense system so that the body can work in harmony with whatever treatment is necessary. Finally, it may help stave off the worst of the treatment for awhile. It worked with my dogs. I know that acupuncture kept both Rocco and Nala mobile for a lot longer then they would have been on their own. It didn’t cure anything but it extended their lives, increased their level of comfort, and kept their condition at bay for a short time. The biggest selling point, in my opinion, is that it is not surgery or something you can’t go back from. Once you have surgery there is no going back. But if you try acupuncture or chiropractic and it doesn’t work you can always have the surgery later. Once you have the surgery you can’t undo it.
It the same thing with weight loss. I hear people, and read blogs, all the time where people say they can’t lose weight. They really need to get weight loss pills or have bariatric surgery. Save those for when you have given it a real go. I know someone who had bariatric surgery and freely admitted they couldn’t lose weight because they didn’t like to exercise. Hello!!! You would rather have someone cut into your body and alter your digestive tract then force yourself to workout?? Wow!! In my opinion that’s the epitome of laziness.
There is always a choice, there is always an option, there is always a Plan B. It’s usually harder and takes more work,, but there is always another way.
