I could write about. There is so much swirling around in my head. The politicians, Al Queda (sp?), the Hawaii SuperFerry, the list goes on. The problem is these are all huge topics. They are going to take long posts and I’m not quite up to that tonight. I’m very tired and hubby is off playing poker. I’m thinking that means an early night. I’ll crawl in bed and finish my book then go to sleep.
Instead, I’m going to gripe about traffic. I commute every day from one side of the island to the other. That involves going over the mountain range that splits the island. There are 3 ways to get over said mountain. The Pali Highway is the oldest road. It’s about 70 years old. It’s kind of narrow, some hairpin turns, and not much fun. Then there is the Likelike Highway. That one is newer, wider, a little nicer. Both the Pali and the Likelike dump down into Honolulu within about 1/2 mile of each other.
The 3rd one is the H-3. This is the newest road, it’s been open about 10 years, and by far the nicest. It is a modern highway with nice wide lanes and big shoulders. It was built to drive 70 mph (I believe). It also happens to be infamous. It was featured on 60 minutes not once, but twice. It took over 30 years to build. The Hawaiian activists protested the whole time. I believe the final cost was around $1,000,000 per mile; the world’s most expensive freeway. This is also the one I take to work.
The speed limit on the H-3 is 60 mph but near the bottom the speed drops to 55 then 45 then 25 in a pretty short distance. You can’t possibly slow down that much without slamming on the brakes. It’s at the 45 mph area that the cops like to sit under the freeways and use their radar guns. It so pisses me off. No one is doing 80 but we are all going over the posted speed limit. I am seriously thinking about getting radar detectors for both cars. I don’t normally use such things but this is really starting to piss me off.
